Keeping an Honest Man Honest...

Last night as I was leaving after care a couple of my co-workers and I noticed that the HUGE change jar that the school is using to collect money to donate to the tragedy in Haiti was sitting on the counter of the receptionist's desk for all to see. It easily has a couple hundred dollars in it in cash and a ridiculous amount of change. I thought it probably wasn't a great idea to keep the change sitting on the counter for anyone that walks up to the door to see. I mean the door is locked at night, but if someone saw a couple hundred dollars sitting on the desk a locked door would be nothing but a small hurdle for them to clear in order to get to their prize.

One of my co-workers made a statement that I had never heard before, but it applies in so many different ways in our lives. She stated that by moving the jar off the desk to a less visible spot it was "Keeping an honest man honest." Satan works in crazy ways with temptation and all it would take is for the thought to enter anyone's head that walked up to that door and they could do something that wouldn't naturally do. A better way to relate to the story is that an alcoholic is naturally going to avoid being in the presence of alcoholic at all cost, a person who struggles with pornography is going to avoid being alone with internet access, a person who struggles with gossiping is going to avoid others who gossip. You set yourself up for failure if you make it easy for the devil to cause you to fall into sin. Avoid the temptation....
