The One Where You Are Worth More

If you've followed my blog for long or heard any of my sermons you'll know that a large part of my life I struggled with self-confidence. I know that many other people have experienced or are experiencing this same thing at this moment.

Before reading on...watch this video...

In elementary school we would wait for the teacher to turn her back and then we would all pile into the curly slide while someone at the end of the slide would clog the slide up. So we would be stuck in the giant curly slide and we would be there for a few minutes and then the teacher would yell at us and the person at the bottom would stop clogging it and then 10-12 3rd graders would come spilling out of the curly slide. I'm not really sure why we did it. Looking back it doesn't really make any sense, but we did it.

The reason I tell you this is because all it took to clog up that slide was one person. One 3rd grader held back 10-12 other students that were smashed up inside the slide.

We all have all face something that holds us back. Something that feels like we have to step into a steel cage match and battle it out with this ginormous opponent. This opponent that grows stronger every time we mess up, we give into sin or have a bad hair day. All of these are like protein for our enemy that help it to grow stronger. We give in and look at a website we shouldn't look at, we cheat on a test, we eat more than we know we should, we hang around friends we know we shouldn't, we give in to peer pressure...you name it...and it is like we're giving this object that holds us back a shot of steroids and it swells up before our eyes.

In the music video it showed a huge chalkboard full of things that hold people back. We let those things where we have messed up or our imperfections hold us back. Like the song says, "We're more than that." You're more than an addiction, a body image, a mistake you made...

"You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create, You've been remade."

So go ahead...pick yourself up off the canvas and prepare to fight back. You don't have to take the fight laying down. You don't have to throw in the towel. He's done far too much for us for Him to simply leave us as we are....He's remade us...You're remade...you don't have to let a sin, an addiction, a previous lifestyle...define you.

So start fighting...

  1. Such a good post! We are more than the choices we make or our past mistakes - we are more! I don't want to let anything hold me back. Thanks for this message.
